See proper instruction in my comment above. Will not work I doubt that a bit and a bit application will work at the same time at this machine. Please try upgrading to a more recent version of the Oracle Client! What you say, WernfriedDomscheit, makes all the logic. Other apps that rely on bit DLLs probably won’t work. But my specific need was for only ODBC bit to work and this method, without further complications, is working. So, I think it may be a valid solution and this is because I wrote this guide different from others more complicated that I found here.

Whenever I run the setup it just quickly pops up a DOS window then immediately closes it. No error messages, nothing.
I know there are a few command line switches to ignore the prereq checking, but they don’t appear to do anything. The big question is ‘what do you want the client for’? Most users can just unzip the Oracle Instant Client package s and not need to run an installer.
If the tools not the OS you use are bit then install the bit Instant Client from here , otherwise if the tools are bit then install the bit Instant Client from here. Generic instructions are at the foot of each page, but check whether your tool etc has its own specific instructions. The next question is do you really need the old 12c client? Try opening up a command prompt in the same directory as the Setup. This should hopefully show what is popping up in the command prompt.
