Hi, This issue is usually faced when the Microsoft Help folder gets corrupted. You will have to unhide all the hidden files and folders on the computer and then search and delete the Microsoft Help folder from the computer and try installing Office Professional again. Close all programs so that you are at your desktop. Double-click on the My Computer icon. Select the Organize menu from the top left hand side and click Folder and search Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab. Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types. Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files. Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files. Once this is completed, restart the computer and then try to install Office Professional again and it should work. Was this reply helpful? With one exception, everything works great. I had to re-install Office, but when I attempt to do so, after a minute or so I get the message “Microsoft Office Professional setup has stopped working”.

So, I was running into this problem as well – actually I still have it, and just found this thread. I’ve got the technet version of ProPlus, and was installing from the iso mounted with d-tools 4.
I’m in vista sp1 and the iso was on my desktop. I am resonably sure that there are no issues with the iso. I too was able to browse to the folder – the cab is present.
I even tried copying the cab to a folder named “ProPlus. WW” to appease the installer on my destop. I pointed the installer to that folder, no dice.
Everything looks fine. Futher, I’ve used the iso once before on another machine and had no issues:. One thing I will note here that nobody else seems to have owned up to that this is the second time I am installing on this machine. The first time I tired the install, it canceled for some reason perhaps one of my keystrokes got placed on the installer and it hit the cancel button I have no idea, but it’s a possibility. The Office Install window came back with “Installation has been canceled.
What I do know is that I didn’t cancel it on purpose and wasn’t even aware of the cancel until I saw that message. I’m about to try the fixes above, and will report back with the results. My theory is that the issue with the installer is that it doesn’t clean itself up after a canceled install, OR it doesn’t clean canceled installs up once the new install is initiated. Either way I’ll let you know.
To the people who posted above, an important detail is if whether or not you had a previous install canceled or not. This will ultimately help with a solution. Chime in if you’ve got the time. I’m gone to manually clean up and re-install. Wish me luck. Ohh ya, I did not click ‘custom install’ either time, I used the Express Install option. Tuesday, December 2, PM. I’m running Vista SP1 fresh install and had the same issue installing ProPlus missing cab , but I had an aborted install for some reason.
I tried deleting the reg keys, and temp files in the app data folder All kinds of things. Each followed by a reboot. Recall from the message above, I copied the iso, from a network share, to my desktop and mounted with d-tools 4. Nothing worked.. So I mounted across the network to the source file and was able to complete the install. I’m not sure, but I’m good now. Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a solution. Although this reply is later than most, I tried this solution deleting the specified key in the registry and the installation of Office Enterprise went straight through.
Up until then, I had been battling these same errors. I feel bad for those who are novices and don’t know to come to the MS web site to search for answers.

After spending several hours over several days including 4 hours on the phone with MS, I finally was successful installing Office Pro I tried every solution I found on the boards except reformatting. Tried copying install disc to HD and mounting to virtual drive. No luck. Tried Deleting registry keys, no luck. Tried everything.
Finally I found some torrents and after a few tries I found one that worked. ISO files didn’t work but this torrent actually was the install files. Sunday, May 3, AM.

Hello, I was able to get the ‘missing’ file by doing this: 1- Create a folder on your hard drive call it office 07 and Copy the contents of the cd microsoft office pro to this location.
This will overwrite the original file. Run setup again and when asked for the file point it to that location. This worked for me. Tuesday, July 21, AM. I’ve had this problem this morning.
I had the install files copied them to a memory stick, copied them to the desktop of the computer and started the install from the files on the hd. When the file error showed I told it to look on the memory stick under the root of the install folder for the files. It worked first time. Wednesday, July 29, PM. Wednesday, September 2, AM. On a virgin new installation of XP the office I tried deleting this anyway and still got the Proplus cab error. The copy of Office is unopened, genuine copy, I think has been on the shelves for a while. The fix I have done and works is to download the free Office trial from Microsoft.
Then use the product key from the disc to activate the product. Hey presto it works! Friday, October 2, PM. Having the same problem as everyone else here. Started at the very top of this page and still can’t get it to install. I’ve tried every step of every solution posted here. I even did the download of the trial version and guess what.
I’ve got the trial version, but the dirty b–tards found the loop hole that fixed their screwup and the product key from the box will not activate the program!
I am fed up with Microsoft!! Posted 22 March – PM. The error code for the MS Office install is normally seen when an attempt to create a restore point is made in safe mode, however it can also occur when the computer is in selective startup mode. Please check by doing the following: 1. Click Start , type msconfig. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Restart. Also check that the necessary services are set to automatic: 1. In the search box, type administrative tools , and then click Administrative Tools.
Double-click Services. In the Services dialog box, click Volume Shadow Copy. Note the status of the selection. Repeat the steps for Windows Installer service as well. Close the Services dialog box. I also notice that there are 2 devices that do not have drivers installed. I would suggest that you go the the support area for the laptop manufacturer and download the latest drivers for your system.
